Successful Dressing for Television Appearances
Only two things matter on TV...your visual image and your voice. We can't dress your voice! Visually, a few basics make all the difference. Foremost is that your conversion to two dimensions will increase your weight and reduce your height. You'd think that the greatest technological nation on Earth could have reversed that by now, no?
To fight that trend use bolder vertical stripes such as the #4400 or the #4402. The smallest stripe to wear is #4036; smaller ones won't be seen as stripes.
Suits should be plain colors. Most suit stripings will disappear on camera. Lighter blues such as light navy show well. Avoid blacks, greys and white. Avoid nailheads and pin-dots as they tend to stobe or moire.
Wear a minimum of bright jewelry. A good producer will dull your jewelry with wax which can be difficult to remove later.
Pay attention to the show's air-time. Your power-look business suit may be out of place on Saturday evening even though you taped Friday at noon.
And most of all, make-up, make-up, make-up. There's nothing worse than having your forehead mistaken for a spotlight!
